Frequently Asked Questions
-
GoYo is a playful, movement-based social emotional learning (SEL) program designed for children. Classes combine gentle, yoga-inspired, movement, music, imagination, connection and coping skills in order to support emotional awareness, self-regulation, confidence and positive relationships.
-
Social emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children develop skills to understand and manage emotions, build positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. SEL is important because it helps children:
Recognize and express their feelings
Learn to calm themselves when upset
Cooperate and communicate with others
Solve problems and handle challenges
GoYo incorporates SEL naturally through movement, play and connection.
-
GoYo offers programs for multiple age groups:
Ages 3-5
Ages 6-9
Ages 10-12
Most classes are designed for children to participate independently, without a caregiver present.
Select classes (typically for younger children) are offered as caregiver-and-child experiences and will be clearly labeled during registration.
-
No. Most GoYo classes are designed for children to attend on their own, similar to other enrichment or movement-based programs.
Caregiver participation is required only for designated caregiver-and-child classes, which are offered occasionally and clearly noted in program descriptions.
-
Not at all!
GoYo is not about poses being “correct.” Children are encouraged to explore movement in their own way and participate as much or as little as feels comfortable. Every child is supported at their own pace.
-
While classes include yoga-inspired movement, they are not traditional yoga classes. Movement is used as a tool to support emotional development rather than physical fitness or performance.
-
GoYo is not therapy, counseling, or a mental health treatment.
While sessions may include elements and skills commonly practiced in therapeutic settings or group-based wellness programs, GoYo does not diagnose, treat, or provide clinical intervention.
